THE HEART OF CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS
The communities of the Greater Gardner area are conveniently located in the heart of North Central Massachusetts. The Greater Gardner area is made up of the City of Gardner and six of its surrounding towns: Ashburnham, Barre, Hubbardston, Templeton, Westminster and Winchendon. Tucked beneath the shadow of Wachusett Mountain and situated near the Mohawk Trail, Gardner, the center of the Greater Gardner area, is less than a 20 minute drive from Leominster and Fitchburg, only 45 minutes from Worcester and an hour from Boston and Nashua, NH. It is a little more than an hours drive to some other major New England cities: Providence, RI; Hartford, CT; and Springfield, MA. Five state routes -- 2, 2A, 68, 101, and 140 -- provide easy access to the east. I-190 connects with Route 2 in Leominster. For easy access to the west, Route 2 connects with I-91 in Greenfield and U. S. 202 in Phillipston/Athol area.
Located less than a mile from Exit 22 (Route 68) off Route 2, Downtown Gardner is the heart of the city. It offers a variety of specialty shops and services, which draw from a wide market area. Winchendon Center is just 15 minutes north of Gardner, drawing visitors up scenic routes 140 and 12, with the central business district located along Route 202. Visitor's to Ashburnham will enjoy the short ride on Route 140 before taking Route 101 into Ashburnham Center, where the Main Business District is located.
Visitor's to Westminster will also enjoy their travel along route 2. By taking the Route 140 South exit off of Route 2, visitor's can easily find their way into Westminster Center by connecting to Route 2A. The Town of Templeton is located to the west of the City of Gardner, and can be reached by travelling along Route 2 to one of three exist for the Town, or by taking the more indirect but scenic route through Gardner using either Route 68 North or Route 101 West. Hubbardston visitor's can reach the center of this small and cozy town by taking Route 2 to Route 68 South directly into the Town Center.
