Healthy Habits 2008 Program on the Road

There is no time like the start of the new year to begin to think of your health, and the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce and Heywood Hospital are teaming up to help you get healthy. HEALTHY HABITS 2008 at Heywood Hospital is a great way for you to get a free health check and to see what is new at Heywood Hospital, a full-service community hospital serving the needs of patients throughout the Greater Gardner and North Central Massachusetts area. In 2007, Heywood introduced a new sleep disorder center, and started a case management program. Our Community Hospital also has started a Hospitalist Program designed to ensure the very best care for the patients at Heywood Hospital. Come and learn more about the plans for Heywood in 2008, including their plans to drastically improve the emergency room and intensive care services, and state of the art wound care treatment for patients provided by Heywood, part of their Centennial Campaign.

SUPER RAFFLE

The Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce and it’s team of ticket sellers are gearing up for the Annual Winter Outing and Super Raffle Drawing which will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. The Winter Outing will also include a Business After Hours, sponsored by Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, beginning at 5:00p.m. Join us for a fantastic evening: food, fun, and, of course, the chance for some fabulous cash prizes.Treat yourself to a day on the slopes with discounted lift tickets offered to all After Hours attendees. And don’t forget: the winning ticket will be drawn promptly at 7:00 pm. Over $15,000 in cash prizes will be given away at the Super Raffle with a Grand Prize of $10,000.

Chamber Opposes Gas Tax The Chamber's Legislative Committee opposed a legislative recommendation to increase the Massachusett's Gas Tax by 49%, and the imposition of a "user" of 5 cents a mile to drive on major highways, saying the extra costs would be too much of a burden on small businesses and their employees at a time when when people are struggling to make ends meet. Consumers More Likely to Buy From Chamber Members A new national study reveals that membership in your local Chamber of Commerce can significantly boost consumer's confidence, favorability, awareness, and likelihood to patronize a business in the future. The report, released by the Shapiro Group, notes that in the Northeast, small businesses can see their business increase by as much as 63% as a result of their membership. (Chamber Value)

Award Nominations Sought The Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations of individuals to be honored for outstanding service and excellence in business. Members of the Chamber and community are invited and encouraged to submit nominations for the Chamber’s Community Service Award, Community Improvement Award, Business Person or Small Business of the Year Award, and Citizen of the Year Award. 2008 Awards

Massachusetts Schools Top Nation In a major analysis of state-by-state data, and using that data to construct innovative measures, the US Chamber of Commerce, along with partners including the Center for American Progress, launched a major initiative to dig into the nation's educational effectiveness. The results were staggering. However, not so surprising was Massachusetts' top ranking in 7 of the nine focus areas such as Academic Achievement, Academic Achievement of low-income and minority students, return on investment, truth in advertising about student proficiency, rigor of standards, postsecondary and workforce readiness, and 21st century teaching force.
